Lang Son ceremony marks 110th birthday of Hoang Van Thu

(LSO) – A grand ceremony was held in the northern border province of Lang Son on November 4 to celebrate the 110th birth anniversary of Hoang Van Thu, an exemplary leader of the Party and the revolution of Vietnam. The event was organised by the Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province.

The celebration was attended by Tran Quoc Vuong, Politburo member and Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat; Truong Tan Sang, former Politburo member and former State President; Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and head of the Party Central Committee’s Information and Education Commission; Hoang Trung Hai, Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi municipal Party Committee; along with officials of ministries, sectors, central agencies and businesses.

The event also saw the presence of representatives from some provinces and cities across Vietnam, and delegations of Chongzuo city (the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region) and Pingxiang city (Guangxi province) of China.

Participating officials of Lang Son included Lam Thi Phuong Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Hoang Van Nghiem, Permanent Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; Pham Ngoc Thuong, Vice Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; as well as other officials of provincial- and district-level authorities. Veteran revolutionaries, holders of the “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” title, and the family of Hoang Van Thu also took part in the ceremony.

Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong and other leaders and former leaders of the Party and State sent flowers to the event.

Hoang Van Thu was born on November 4, 1909, in the area which is now Hoang Van Thu commune of Van Lang district, Lang Son province.

He spent 16 of his 35 years of life doing revolutionary activities. His life and revolutionary career were a bright example of revolutionary heroism and reflected the lofty virtues of a communist.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary of the Lang Son provincial Party Committee Lam Thi Phuong Thanh stressed that during his 16 years of revolutionary activities, especially from 1930 to 1938, Hoang Van Thu devoted his wholehearted efforts to developing the revolutionary movement in Lang Son, thus laying the foundation for the formation of the local Party organisation. He was the first key leader and played the crucial role in the development of the Party organisation and the revolutionary movement in the province.

Upholding the precious traditions of preceding generations, the Party organisation and people of all ethnic groups of Lang Son have always stayed united to weather every difficulty and challenge while making unceasing efforts to obtain many important achievements, contributing to local and national reforms, she said.

The official added that in 2019, Party officials and members and people of all social strata in the province have carried out many patriotic emulation movements in different fields, including a special one to celebrate the 188th founding anniversary of Lang Son province and the 110th birth anniversary of Hoang Van Thu. A number of activities have also been held to encourage locals to be active and creative in their work, production and study.

He said in the coming time, the Party organisation, administration and people of Lang Son need to focus on tapping into local potential and advantages, and achieving the set targets. In the short term, they need to ensure that all-level Party congresses will be organised well in the run up to the 13th National Party Congress.

Vuong asked the province to develop agriculture and forestry; pay attention to the application of high technology in production and the building of new-style rural areas; further develop border gate-based economic activities, trade, services and tourism; and develop complete socio-economic infrastructure.

Besides, it is necessary to continue improving education – training, preserving and promoting ethnic groups’ cultural values, eradicating backward customs, bettering health care, eliminating poverty, and raising people’s living standards, especially in ethnic minority, mountainous and border areas, he noted.

The official also requested socio-economic development be closely associated with the ensuring of defence – security, political stability and social safety in all circumstances.

Lang Son was also told to press on with the Party building and rectification; the studying and following of late President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and style; the improvement of the leadership and combatant capacity of Party committees, organisations and members; and the building of incorruptible and strong political systems at all levels.

Vuong expressed his belief that with its revolutionary traditions, Lang Son will make firm progress to develop unceasingly and become more and more prosperous./.
