Provincial tourism industry: Responding to the unpredicted Covid-19 pandemic
– The 4th wave of the complicated and unpredictable COVID-19 pandemic Lang Son has brought many challenges to the provincial tourism industry. In response to the situation, the provincial tourism industry has carried out many practical activities to overcome difficult times.
Since early May 2021, after the COVID-19 pandemic re-emerged in community, the province’s tourism industry reactivated the pandemic prevention and control system with the highest goal of ensuring safety for local people and visitors. Mr. Nguyen Phuc Ha, Director of the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DCST) said: To ensure the disease prevention and control, from the beginning of the year, especially during the national holiday from April 30 to May 1, the tourism industry has seriously and drastically implemented various measures to prevent and control the spread of the pandemic at hotels, attractions, and relics of the area. Additionally, in early May 2021 when the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested tourism business units in the country to promote digital applications to register and self-assess COVID-19 safety guidance and instruction through the website https://safe.tourism.com.vn. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has promptly deployed this assessment request to all tourism business units across the province.
Security forces at Tam Thanh Pagoda, Lang Son city are always on duty to measure body temperature and remind local people and tourists to follow disease prevention and control regulations.
Accordingly, those applications allow tourism business units to declare their information of the COVID-19 safety and at the same time visitors can easily search for safe destinations such as restaurants, hotels, amusement parks, hospitals, houses, and the nearest drug stores. In addition, visitors can provide feedback of problems they encountered and receive timely resolutions from relevant management agencies. Up to now, 114 out of 232 tourist accommodation establishments operating in the province have successfully registered their accounts on the system. 100% of accommodation facilities ensure safety when welcoming guests.
Notably, in order to strictly implement epidemic prevention and control, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has coordinated to set up an inspection team at tourism business units. For example, in May 2021, the industry inspected 12 large tourist accommodation establishments in Dong Dang town, Cao Loc town, Cao Loc district; and Lang Son city… Thereby, the department has promptly detected, propagated, reminded and had appropriate punishment with units that have not seriously implemented the pandemic prevention and control measures.
At the grassroots levels, the culture and information office of districts and the city also actively advise and implement disease prevention and control regulations at tourist spots and resorts in the area. Thereby, many tourist areas and attractions in the city and districts such as: Huu Lien community tourism village (Huu Lung); Quynh Son Community Tourism Village (Bac Son); Bac Le temple (Huu Lung) … strictly implements the prevention and control of COVID-19 for visitors by spraying disinfectant at attractions, requesting wearing face-coverings, and disinfecting hands before entering. Ms. Pham Thi Thuan, Deputy Head of Culture and Information Department of Lang Son city said: In order to well implement the disease prevention and control regulations, we have advised Lang City People’s Committee to temporarily close Ky Lua walking street. In addition, the department has actively coordinated to inspect the implementation of disease prevention and control at 10 accommodation establishments and 11 tourist sites in the province. Through the inspection, those tourist establishment have well complied with the disease prevention and control regulations.

It is noticed that over the past time, tourism businesses and travel companies have also had many solutions to overcome difficulties during Covid-19 times. Ms. Hoang Thi Minh Hong, Director of Viet Trung Tourism and Service Company said: During the Covid-19 outbreak, our company invests in agricultural products due to the absence of tourists. At the same time, we take advantage of this time to repair the facilities and organize training workshops to improve the quality of the staff.
Talking about solutions to solve difficulties for tourism businesses in difficult times, Ms. Hoang Kim Thao, Chairman of the Provincial Tourism Association said: Currently, we have mobilized membership unis to strengthen their business facilities, improve staffs’ professional skills, fully vaccinate employees, at the same time continue to plan new tourism products focusing on the domestic market and upholding the element of “safe tourism services”. We believe that when the Covid-virus is contained, the provincial tourism industry will be stimulated again.
With those positive activities implemented in the provincial tourism industry, the efforts of tourism businesses, travel companies it is hoped that the local tourism industry will soon recover after the pandemic.
